The US Department of Commerce initiated an investigation into wooden cabinets imported from Vietnam.

The Trade Remedies Administration, Ministry of Industry and Trade said that it has just received information that on May 24, 2022 (US time), the US Department of Commerce (DOC) has initiated an investigation into considering wooden cabinets imported from Vietnam. Vietnam and Malaysia enter the United States.

The reason is due to the suspicion that wooden cabinet products of Vietnam and Malaysia use parts imported from China within the scope of application of the trade remedy measure that the United States is applying to similar Chinese products. Country.

Specifically, in the China Tariff Order, the DOC stipulates that wooden cabinets and parts covered by the measure are further processed in a third country, including but not limited to the following stages: Planning, cutting, grooving, punching, drilling, painting, coloring, finishing or other operations, are still within the scope of the application of anti-dumping and anti-subsidy duties.

According to US regulations, relevant parties have 30 days from the date of initiation to submit comments and provide counter-information to US investigative agencies.

It is expected that the DOC will make a final conclusion within 120 days from the date of initiation (can be extended for another 180 days if there is a good reason). During an investigation, the DOC may request information from interested parties for review purposes.

Thus, out of 2 items representing a number of US wood cabinet manufacturers that asked the DOC to investigate, the DOC accepted to initiate an investigation for 1 content (the issue of considering product scope). The remaining content (tax evasion investigation), DOC is still continuing to consider initiating the investigation (expected to last until June 6, 2022).

To ensure its legitimate interests, the Trade Remedies Administration recommends that the Association and enterprises producing and exporting wooden cabinets continue to review the export activities of the investigated products to the United States. .

At the same time, study and learn the regulations and procedures for anti-tax evasion investigation of the United States. Properly and fully comply with the requirements of the US investigation agency, closely coordinate with the Trade Remedies Bureau throughout the course of the case.
